How does your chapter volunteer in the community throughout the year? Our FFA members are proud to serve our community in many ways throughout the year. We visit the local nursing home to deliver goodie bags, help keep our town and school grounds clean through trash pickup, and volunteer in the community garden, where we help grow produce for the local food pantry. Members also assist at community events such as the NuGen Open House and the Turner County Fair’s Ag Education Center. Each year we host a “giveback” project, including a giving tree for local foster families, and we show our appreciation for educators by creating gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week.

What fundraisers does your chapter do throughout the year? Which is the most successful? Our FFA Chapter hosts several fundraisers throughout the year that bring our community together while supporting student activities. In the fall, we hold a carnival for local children with games and a free-will meal donation. Another favorite is our Five-Second Corn Dump, where members travel around with a gravity wagon collecting corn donations from area farmers. Our fruit sales continue to be a community favorite, and our annual pancake feed — supported by freewill donations — always draws a great crowd. Of all our fundraisers, fruit sales consistently bring in the most support and success each year.

What are the biggest events of the year? Our biggest event is the fall carnival, as the gym is full of kids. Our pancake feed would be next.

What is unique about your chapter? Our chapter is very young, with only two seniors on the roster.

When was your chapter founded and how has it evolved? Our chapter was founded April 23, 1979. We have increased town membership and female membership significantly.
