Another county fair has come and gone — way too quickly, I might add.

It is always a week that we look forward to plan our summer around. My favorite part is watching how much the kids have grown from year to year, not just physically but also their skills. My son has been able to do more and more each year by himself. From halter breaking to leading to feeding and clipping, he’s all around more independent.

The fair is truly a unique experience, and I am so grateful my son has the same opportunity I did. Most of my favorite memories are from fair week, when my family would come together and exhibit at the fair. I think this year would have been over 30 years that I was in some way involved in the fair, either as an exhibitor myself or a leader or mom of an exhibitor. The fair is also where I met my now husband, so it holds a special place in my heart.

The county fair is a summer tradition I hope continues to give the kids the chance to experience something like no other. Because that’s what it’s all about: the kids and their memories. It truly is one of the best weeks of summer.
