Sometimes, goals take a little longer to achieve than you expected. They may even change a little along the way. The original goal may seem out of reach, and you feel like giving up.
Building in steps to reach the goal helps a lot, so you don't get overwhelmed and can keep in focus what you've been working towards.
It has been a goal of mine to milk a full side of Jerseys in our parlor. It may not seem like a big deal, but we started with just two jerseys we purchased eight years ago. We then bought a couple more, making it six total. Now, with 40 bred and raised Jerseys mixed in the herd, it became a little more real; it might actually happen to have eight come in the parlor altogether. Which, again, doesn't sound like a big deal, but they are mixed in between two groups, and they can come in the parlor randomly.
Then, finally, one morning a couple of days ago, they filed in one by one, and I had a full side of eight Jerseys. It actually brought tears to my eyes to have achieved a goal that was set so many years ago. It may seem like a simple goal, but I have loved the Jersey breed since I was little, and, now, I get to admire my own group of sassy girls.
