A surprise calf had a rough start to the day when his mama decided she was getting uncomfortable and delivered in a not-so-great spot. We scooped up the little guy and gave him a nice, warm bath and then dried him off.
He got to hang out in the heated office with me for the morning, and it wasn’t long before he was demanding some breakfast. He took his job of supervisor very seriously and watched me get caught up on records and finally drifted off for a nap.
A rough start to life for the fragile little creature called for warm blankets and a calf jacket to relieve the stress of the morning. By the end of the day, he had progressed enough to move out by the other newborns, and he tucked in for the day.
We do our best to make sure expecting mamas are in supervised areas, but sometimes, they surprise us, and we have to make the best of it.
