Today’s blog comes to you from unfamiliar territory.

Yes, this farm girl took a vacation.

My sister, my son and I hopped on a plane and flew to South Dakota. (That’s another story for another time.) Anyhow, we planned four fun-filled, adventure-packed days in the beautiful Custer State Park area.

We explored the Badlands, went on an old-time chick wagon ride, experienced a buffalo jam, went zip lining, took a 1880s train ride, went shopping and went on many scenic drives through the parks.

We viewed Mount Rushmore National Memorial from a chair lift atop the trees and caught a glimpse of the Crazy Horse Memorial. If all of that wasn’t enough to squeeze into four days, we also went on a horseback trail ride through Custer State Park, which was truly the highlight of my trip.

We rode through the park with scenery like I’ve never seen before. We were down in the valley for much of the time with the rock peaks stretching up beyond. We zig-zagged through a stream and up and down the cliffs. It was breathtaking.

We packed so much into the four days we were there, and there is still so much more to see. We are already planning a trip back next year, with more camping and more trail riding at the top of the list.
