The cold and flu bug invaded our house.

It started with Garen sneezing and cold symptoms for a couple days. He then passed it to Louis over deer hunting, and I thought I had avoided it this round. Then one evening, I had an awful ache across my neck; I thought it was due to the fall I’d taken earlier in the day. Ice patch 1, Jenny 0.

But the next morning, I woke up with the chills, entire body aches and a sinus headache. I guess I did not get missed with the cold and flu bug.

As a small dairy farmer/business owner, there is no calling in sick. Instead, you peel yourself out of bed because the herd depends on you. They don’t care if your head is pounding and feels like it’s sort of balancing on your body, or that you have two extra layers on because you can’t get warm. They need to be fed and milked and cared for just the same as any other day. Even the barn cats reminded me that they didn’t care I was under the weather and begged for breakfast.

So, I did the bare minimum chores, and back to bed I went to try and get enough strength for evening chores. Thankfully, the worst of the symptoms only lasted a couple days and were somewhat managed with cold medicine. I doubled up on immune-boost vitamins and am slowly regaining my energy level.

Hopefully we got the cold and flu bug out of the way before the hustle and bustle of the holidays so I can focus on getting in the holiday spirit.
