Breakfast is usually a grab-and-go type deal for us.
Breakfast burritos and frozen waffles are our go-to or anything that can be warmed in the toaster oven. We need something quick and easy as we work our way through morning chores. However, hectic mornings, like herd check morning, deserve special treats.
That calls for donuts, cinnamon rolls or turnovers. I stopped by a local shop only to discover they have frozen Cinnabon rolls, and they even qualified to be warmed in the toasted oven in the barn office. Double win. It's hard to mask the familiar scents of a barn office, but those cinnamon rolls took the challenge ... and won.
We recently switched from once-a-month herd check to every other week. We are trying to catch open cows or problem cows earlier. Tightening up our days open and days in milk also made the list of reachable goals. Heck, it wouldn't hurt to see some increase in milk production from improved days in milk. But, we won't stretch our luck. We were definitely pleased with our outcome so far with our first 100% herd check. All the cows to be pregnancy checked were confirmed pregnant. Looks like we will be sticking with the every-other-week herd check and continue to improve our herd.
All that is great, but I am quite certain the best part of more herd checks is the added times of delicious and warm cinnamon rolls.
