Kids Corner: They Deyles
14 years old
Freshman
When do you do chores, and what chores do you do? During the summer, I do chores all the time. During other times of the year, in the evening. Feeding heifers, feeding hay, baling hay, pitching pens, stacking straw, hauling poop, driving tractor and fixing things.
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is skid loader chores so I can drive around to do them. My least favorite is giving hay in the barn.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Fire and Lace. Fire was my first show animal, and Lace was my first calf that I got to take to the state fair.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A diesel mechanic.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? It would be a big dairy operation with robots and lots of green equipment to run my 4,000 acres.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Chocolate ice cream.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm during the summer? Fix things on the farm.
What is your favorite memory of working or playing on the farm? Spending time with Grandpa learning how to fix everything.
Zachary Deyle

Sixth grade
When do you do chores, and what chores do you do? In the summer, I do chores all the time. In the evening during other times of the year. Milking, feeding hay, hauling poop, bedding, pitching pens, baling hay, almost everything.
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is milking because then I don’t have to feed hay which is my least favorite chore.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? My heifers are Nancy and Margaret. They are my show animals, and I baby them a lot.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A farmer.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? It would have nothing but John Deere tractors on it.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Ice cream with lots of chocolate syrup.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm during the summer? Ride on the tractor.
What is your favorite memory of working or playing on the farm? When I was building the windmill with my brother and grandpa.
Sydney Deyle

Fifth grade
When do you do chores, and what chores do you do? Mostly in the evenings but some mornings too. I do milking, feeding calves, feeding hay, scraping poop, bedding and helping deliver calves.
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is taking care of the calves. My least favorite chore is scraping the floor.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Koala, my cow, and Milkshake, my heifer that is white. They are my show animals, and I like to lead them around.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A zookeeper.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? Full of calves, chickens, cats and a few dogs.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Ice cream with hot fudge and nuts.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm during the summer? Play with the baby kittens.
What is your favorite memory of working or playing on the farm? Playing with all the cats and naming each of them.
William Deyle
8 years old
Third grade
When do you do chores, and what chores do you do? Mostly in the evenings. Milking, filling water tanks, feeding hay, bedding and riding in the tractor with Grandpa.
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is riding with Grandpa, so I don’t have to do any chores. My least favorite is feeding hay because sometimes they have thistles in them.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Yes, my first calf that I showed, Muffin.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A farmer.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? A cattle farm with lots of land so I could go hunting too.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Chocolate ice cream.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm during the summer? Ride in the tractor.
What is your favorite memory of working or playing on the farm? Playing farming with my brother Zachary.
