Kid's Corner: The Smudes

Brock Smude
15 years old
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I do chores morning and night, and I milk, clean out feed, feed and mix feed. 
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is cutting wood because it’s never boring. My least favorite chore is cleaning out feed, because it takes a while. 
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Our dog, Sadie, is 13, and she is adorable. 
What is your favorite subject in school? I like gym because we get to be athletic. 
What is something you have learned in school recently? The impeachment process.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A welder. 
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? Smaller but not too small. 
What is the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? You get to drive all kinds of equipment. 
What is your favorite dairy treat? Milk. 
What is your favorite activity to do on the farm during the winter? Snowmobiling all day if possible. 

Josi Smude 
13 years old
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I do chores morning and night. I open gates, sometimes clean feed out, feed calves and cows, help chop bedding and push up feed sometimes. 
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite chore is feeding calves, and my least favorite is feeding cows. 
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Bella and Bear because they are nice and Bear follows me around. 
What is your favorite subject in school? Band and gym because they are fun. 
What is something you have learned in school recently? South American geography.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A veterinarian. 
What is the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Learning how to work together and working with animals. 
What is your favorite dairy treat? Chocolate ice cream.
What is your favorite activity to do on the farm during the winter? Sledding, snowmobiling and building snow forts.  


Brady Smude
11 years old
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I do chores morning and night. I drive skidloader, feed cows and calves, and push feed up for the cows. 
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? I like to push up feed, and I don’t like feeding cows. 
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? I like Brady the calf, because he’s my calf. 
What is your favorite subject in school? Gym because it’s the easiest.
What is something you have learned in school recently? Social 1600s.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A farmer.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? A grain farm.
What is the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Working on the farm. 
What is your favorite dairy treat? Ice cream. 
What is your favorite activity to do on the farm during the winter? Build snow forts. 


Ellie Smude
8 years old
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I do chores in the afternoon. I feed the calves and the cats, I help my brothers and sister do chores and watch the gate.
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite is petting the cats because they love it so much and they want more of it. 
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? Damian because Snowball is gone, and I am sad. I can feel that I am petting him right now. 
What is your favorite subject in school? I like art and science in school because we get to draw the planets up in space. 
What is something you have learned in school recently? Art, math, science and reading. 
What do you want to be when you grow up? A veterinarian. 
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? A house, tractors, a barn, sheds and a pool in the house. 
What is the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Watching Dad milk and helping Grandpa with calves. 
What is your favorite dairy treat? Butter on pancakes.  
What is your favorite activity to do on the farm during the winter? Going sledding on the snow and having snowball fights. 

Audrey Smude

When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I help in the house with emptying the dishwasher, cooking and baking, and laundry. 
What are your favorite and least favorite chores? My least favorite is cleaning up. My favorite is emptying the dishwasher. 
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? I like the puppies Sadie and Rubie and the kitty Mocha. 
What is your favorite movie to watch at daycare? “Babe.”
What is something you have learned in daycare recently? Coloring.
What do you want to be when you grow up? My siblings think I will be a dentist because when I was little, I’d always put my fingers in their mouths. 
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? Kitties, puppies and cows everywhere. 
What is the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Everything. 
What is your favorite dairy treat? Shredded cheese.
What is your favorite activity to do on the farm during the winter? Walk around and play with my siblings. And, get the mail.
