Twinkling Ginger Stars

1 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 egg
3 tablespoons molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
Powdered sugar
Combine sugar and butter in a large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy (one or two minutes). Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Continue beating until well mixed ( one to two minutes). Add combined dry ingredients except powdered sugar.
Divide dough into thirds. Shape each third into a round ball; flatten to one-half inch thickness. Wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate until firm (one to two hours) or up to three days.
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one-third at a time (keeping the remaining dough refrigerated) to one-eighth inch thickness. Cut with three to four-inch star cookie cutter. Place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for five to seven minutes or until set. Let stand one minute; remove from cookie sheets. Cool completely. Sift powdered sugar over cookies.
Yield: Six dozen cookies.[[In-content Ad]]
