Kids Corner: The Hansens
Morgan, Brady, Maddie and Mollie Hansen are the children of Brad Hansen of Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy, and Tricia Hansen. Their farm is located in Hudson, Iowa (Blackhawk County) and they milk about 170 Holsteins. The Hansens also own and operate an on-farm creamery.<br /><!-- 1upcrlf -->PHOTO SUBMITTED
6th grade
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I feed the calves at 6:30, morning and night.
What's your favorite and least favorite chores? My favorite job is graining calves and my least favorite job is training the newborns to drink from their bottle off the rack.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? My favorite animal is our dog, Maggie. She likes to swim with me in the pond.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a farmer.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? It would have lots of dairy cows with big red barns.
What's the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Having lots of room to run around and play outside.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Cookie dough ice cream.
What are you most looking forward to doing when spring comes? I am looking forward to being able to jump on the trampolines and playing hide and go seek tag.
Maddie Hansen, 9
4th grade
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I help package butter and cheese curds whenever I am needed.
What's your favorite and least favorite chores? I don't like putting the twisty-ties on cheese curd bags because it hurts my fingers.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? I like the fainting goat "Vanilla." She is very playful.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be an engineer.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? It would have big barns with cows and goats.
What's the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Swimming in the pond.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Snickers ice cream.
What are you most looking forward to doing when spring comes? I am looking forward to riding bikes and jumping on trampolines.
Brady Hansen, 8
2nd grade
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? My chores include chopping hay and feeding cows.
What's your favorite and least favorite chores? Why? I love to ride tractors.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? I like all the cows.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A farmer that works in the fields.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? My farm would have lots of big tractors.
What's the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? Riding in tractors.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Brownie batter ice cream.
What are you most looking forward to doing when spring comes? Riding tractors and playing outside.
Mollie Hansen, 6
Kindergarten
When do you do chores and what chores do you do? I help make cheese curds at our dairy.
What's your favorite and least favorite chores? I like making cheese curds because I get to eat some.
Do you have a favorite animal on your farm? I like the fainting goats.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a teacher.
If you had your own farm, what would it look like? If I had my own farm, it would have lots of animals.
What's the best thing about growing up on a dairy farm? There is lots of room to play.
What is your favorite dairy treat? Chocolate ice cream.
What are you most looking forward to doing when spring comes? I am looking forward to playing outside and riding my bike.
