How did you get into farming? After college, my husband and I both worked in the dairy industry and had talked about eventually farming. In the fall of 1996, the opportunity came for us to go back home to my family farm.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced since you started dairying and how did you overcome it? The low milk prices make it hard to get ahead.
What advice would you give other dairy farmers? I think it is good to keep the cows on a timely schedule and keep your spending down to fit into your budget.
What is the best investment you ever made in your dairy? Last fall we took over the farm from my parents so I'd have to say the cows and machinery.
What has been your biggest accomplishment while dairy farming? We enjoy showing cattle in the summer. We were excited to exhibit two All-Minnesota State Show winners in Litchfield last week.
What is your favorite thing to do on the farm? I like milking, and training and working with the show cattle.
What is your favorite dairy product? Cheese
What is your favorite tool? 4-wheeler and jackknife
What are your plans for the dairy in the next five years? I would like to put up a hoop barn for calves.
Tell us about a skill you possess that has made dairy farming easier for you. My strong work ethic.
If you won a trip to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Australia, our family hosted a MAST students from there and it would be nice to visit.
Would you rather do chores for a month in -20 degree weather or 100 degrees with high humidity? -20 degree weather. At least I can add layers!
What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy attending my twin 12-year-olds' sporting events and I coach the Fillmore County dairy judging and dairy quiz bowl teams. I also enjoy baking.[[In-content Ad]]
