How did you get into dairy farming? I was raised on the family dairy farm. After graduating from UW-River Falls in 1998, I returned to work on the farm full time. My wife and I purchased 40 acres close to the farm in 2005 and built a freestall barn at the home farm in 2011.
What is your favorite technology? Why? AgSource DM. Using our DHIA records, I can do many different reports and track veterinary and antibiotic costs to name a couple of the options available.
What is your plan for your dairy in the next five years? I would like to build a milking parlor.
What has been the best decision you've ever made on your farm? Docking tails.
Looking back, if you could change one thing that you did on your farm, what would it be and why? We should have built a milking parlor when the free stall barn was built to speed up milking
What is your favorite job to do on the farm? Cutting hay.
What is your favorite dairy product? Culver's custard.
Tell us about a skill you possess that makes dairy farming easier for you. I work well with the cattle.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Spend time with my kids and go for gator rides with them.
